I am Ellen Nordgren. I was born and raised in Portland OR, the youngest of 3 girls. I started taking art classes in 2007 after the death of my Sister Sue. She was an artist. I took lessons from master watercolor artist Kathy Allegri for several years, learning about value, composition, color mixing, and sketching, both in the studio and plein air. I decided to explore acrylic paints, and enjoyed creating bright, colorful paintings. However, I was in search of something more. I longed for a more abstract style with lots of texture. Then I discovered oil paint and cold wax medium. Using color, shape, and texture I am finally able to paint my stories and weave my experiences, whether traumatic, angry, peaceful, or joyful, they are an interpretation of my many emotions around love, loss, life and healing.
